Grants
Microgeneration doesn't come cheap. Due to economies of scale both the products and the installation are still relatively expensive in the UK although this will hopefully change in the future as more technologies enter the mainstream. It is for this reason that the government is offering microgeneration grants with the aim of encouraging more widespread use of these technologies.
The Low Carbon Buildings Programme was launched in April 2006 to replace the previous Clear Skies and Solar PV grant programme. Part of this programme was to provide grants to householders to install microgeneration.
The Low Carbon Buildings Programme householder stream has now been closed for electricity technologies (solar photovoltaic’s, wind turbines and small scale hydro), so these technologies no longer qualify for funding. However, the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) that now controls the Low Carbon Buildings Programme will still continue to provide grants for some microgeneration technologies. In addition to the Low Carbon Building Programme there may also be local authority grants available in your area. We've highlighted some here and will continue to add more as and when we find out about them. So, if you already have details of a local grant scheme that is not on our list please feel free to email the details at feedback@goodenergyshop.co.uk.
